Angeleno March 2001

Off of Vermont on Kingswell is the easy-to-miss but unforgettable Aero & Co.  This extraordinary shop, opened about a year ago, specializes in inspired merchandise from undiscovered L.A. designers and caters to the classic modern urban woman as well as to the avant-garde girl.  “We wanted to create a lifestyle store,” says co-owner Alisa Loftin.  Established local designer Cynthia Vincent is the creative director and other co-owner; some of her designs can be found here, as can such unusual pieces as Magda Berliner’s “Hairy Halters” (with real human hair attached to the collar): mohair and wool sweaters in pink, aqua, and yellow by Allebasi; and ultracool tees by Mrs. Weir.  The brown Katayoni Adeli flared jeans with fan stitching down the leg scream out to be tried on, and the one-of-a-kind creations by Rami Kashou, like his shredded tee called “Palestine,” have obvious political undertones.  There is also a small men’s selection featuring designers such as Jared Gold and Ottoshop.  Accessories include coffee table books, progressive handbags, funky jewelry and deluxe make-up kits by Poole.  The store also carries the increasingly popular Essential Stuff bath products and candles, rounding out the “lifestyle” aspect of the concept and ensuring that Aero & Co. is a breath of fresh air in the sometimes bland atmosphere of Los Angeles retail.
